| Comments: | My son Blake is nine years old and loves basketball. He watches the pros on TV and tries to emulate their moves. I wanted him to understand though, that basketball was more than extravagant gold chains, tattoos, and rap albums. Then we found MSgt Rucker's Perseverance Basketball Camp. They showed Blake things like respecting the game and the fundamentals, teamwork, and respecting other people, too. I was more than impressed. There is no other program like this in our area. Blake may be the first one signed up for next year's camp, and we will be telling all of our friends. I would recommend this to kids of all ages and those adults who have the time to volunteer. The camp is time well spent. |

6 August'02 , it did not finish what I had written, so here is the continuation of that..I will make it shorter and to the point!
"..much to my regret.. I had to relay the info to my 8 yr old, that they had too many kids, so he wasn't able to attend. He cried nonstop, and it TORE my heart, so I personally contacted Rucker, to explain the situation, and he said "Bring him" I wish I had talked to him earlier. My 8 yr old went the last day, and it was the BEST day for him !!
Ron, what you do is special, more so because you do it straight from the heart!
As I told you before Ron, THANK YOU!! Soooo...very much for making him a part of all that, and for drying up his tears. I know he wants to go next year, I will make sure he gets there! He will play basketball for the first time this year, and that camp helped him to love basketball a little more!! |

Sometimes I can be very stubborn on the court and he really has helped me to think clearly. I would say he ranks right up there with my high school coach who is still one of my greatest friends. |

Without a plan or goal, how can you measure where you've started from to where you want to be?

To make a long story short..My children attend the Boys & Girls Club here in FWB.. and while my oldest child had gotten a permission form to attend this camp.. my youngest did not. My youngest is 8yrs old, and he cried for a couple days that he was'nt able to attend this camp. On the third day of camp, I called the Base Gym and spoke to an individual in regards to my youngest son attending.. even though they had already started.. and was told that they were only to have approx. 250 kids, and they were already above that. | Comments: | As a volunteer for the 2002 Perseverance camp I was truly amazed at the fruit of the camp's harvest. This year's camp serviced almost 300 campers from the Ft. Walton Beach community. The Campers not only learn basketball fundamentals, sportsmanship and teamwork they also learn the
important life lessons of perseverance and pride in ones self. I
watched as the campers remained focused on the hottest of days. My 3
children participated in the camp and I must admit 2 of the 3 aren't
athletically inclined , yet by the end of camp they could dribble, shot
and pass the ball and talked enthusiastically about returning for the
2003 session.

My daughter has attended the camp since it's inception and each time, she has come away with a tremendous since of confidence in herself and her level play. After this year's camp, she has stated how anxious she is to start the basketball season and show that she's more than capable of playing on the varsity level. The camp as a whole has truly been a blessing, and to receive such detailed instruction and positive feedback from the coaching staff for "free" is testament to how much the camp has a heart for our youth. |
